Frequently Asked Questions

A nexus letter is a formal statement from a qualified and licensed medical provider that connects a Veteran’s current medical condition to their military service. It’s used in the VA disability claims process to show a “nexus” — the link between a diagnosis and service-related events or exposures. A nexus letter can be crucial for substantiating service-connected disability claims, especially when the cause is not evident in military records or conditions worsened post-service, helping a Veteran secure an accurate VA disability rating.

Our services are tailored for Veterans seeking assistance with medical opinions. A nexus letter is highly beneficial for those who have little or no evidence of a disability in their military medical records, those whose claims were denied service connection, those filing claims long after discharge, non-presumptive toxic exposures, disputed C&P exams, and those trying to prove a secondary service connection.

We take the time to understand each veteran’s unique situation and medical history, ensuring that our opinions are tailored, thorough, factual, and include convincing, evidence-based rationale. Our letters use VA preferred language and include and cite relevant medical research and BVA case law decisions to help support our independent medical opinion.

While a Nexus letter does not guarantee service connection, it can strengthen a VA disability claim and serve as the missing link for veterans trying to establish service connection for their VA disability conditions. Under 38 U.S.C. § 5107(b), the VA is required to give veterans the “benefit of the doubt” when the evidence for and against a claim is equally balanced. An effective nexus letter from a qualified medical professional can be the key to tipping that balance.

A qualified and licensed healthcare provider with expertise in the relevant medical field, familiar with VA standards, and who has reviewed the veteran’s service and medical records and can opine “at least as likely as not.” The VA accepts Nexus letters from: • Medical doctors (MDs) • doctors of osteopathy (DOs) • Nurse practitioners (NPs) • Physician assistants (PAs) • Chiropractors • Audiologists • Mental health professionals

You must have a diagnosis from either in service or after service, which we will aim to service connect. It would also be helpful to have your medical records (notes, labs, imagining results, sleep study, etc.) and any other evidence you plan to present for evaluation.

Typically, we will need a DD-214 and the following items pertaining to the condition in question: health records (service, VA, private), buddy statements, personal statements, VA claim and denial letters, and any other medical documentation related to your claim(s).

We do not diagnose or treat medical conditions. Our Nexus Letters are based on pre-existing diagnoses, medical evidence from health records, and ties to service connection.

Our virtual modality allows us to serve veterans worldwide.

Our staff is trained in and abides by HIPAA and Privacy Act standards. We use HIPAA compliant software and maintain full patient-provider confidentiality. Your privacy is our utmost priority, and we are committed to safeguarding your information with the highest levels of security and professionalism.
